About Me: Why I Left Conventional Medicine to Help Women Truly Heal

As a board-certified OB/GYN and fellowship-trained urogynecologist, I’ve spent years on the front lines of women’s health — and I’ve seen firsthand how conventional medicine often oversimplifies, overlooks, or outright dismisses what women truly need, especially during midlife. Too often, we offer one-size-fits-all treatments that fall short. These are short-term crutches — not solutions — and in many cases, they make things worse.

I'll never forget the day I realized conventional medicine wasn't providing all the answers. I was sitting across from my tenth patient that day, another case of fatigue, brain fog, unpredictable bleeding, frequently running to the bathroom, endless pads and unexplained symptoms. She had tears in her eyes as she told me she’d seen seven doctors before me. She felt invisible. Trapped in the devastating gap between being told, “It’s just perimenopause — this is normal,” and the crushing reality of pelvic dysfunction systematically dismantling her quality of life — the urgency, the bleeding, the intimacy struggles, and the loss of confidence.

That moment hit me hard. I realized that the tools I was trained to use weren’t enough. The endless prescriptions, the ten-minute consultations, the revolving door of symptoms labeled “normal” — it all felt like we were putting band-aids on deeper, unaddressed problems.

I’d lie awake at night, my mind racing, knowing my patients deserved more than symptom management. They deserved answers. They deserved healing.

My turning point came when my own health began to falter. I struggled with fatigue and brain fog that conventional labs couldn’t explain. That personal experience pushed me to explore beyond the boundaries of traditional care — and that’s when I found functional medicine.

At first, I was skeptical. But as I dove into the research, completed advanced training, and studied root-cause medicine, I realized something: this wasn’t “alternative,” it was comprehensive. Functional medicine gave me a new lens — one that honors each woman’s complexity, history, and physiology.

It’s a personalized, patient-centered approach that looks at nutrition, hormones, gut health, inflammation, spiritual and lifestyle to uncover the real reasons behind chronic symptoms.

At Nuvana, we help women regain vitality, strength, and freedom from debilitating symptoms. Our patients experience vibrant energy they thought was lost forever, a renewed zest for life, and often — a restored sense of self. We help women rebuild confidence, rekindle relationships, pursue new goals, and engage with the world with joy, purpose, and clarity.

Every time I help a woman uncover and help cure the root cause of her suffering — when I see the light return to her eyes, when she tells me she finally feels heard and understood — I know: this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

Because at Nuvana, we don’t believe your best years are behind you.

We believe they’re just beginning.
